Anthony Stewart Head

18 May 2005 20:21 pm

When you first hear Anthony Stewart Head you either think of two things. “Ah, the guy from the Nescafe coffee advert” or “who? Oh Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” While Buffy has been his major role by far, his filmography is by no means short especially in his home country, Britain.

Born on February 20th 1954, his mother was an actress and his father was a documentary maker. He grew up in London and started acting school at the age of six, writing his own plays within a few years. He later attended London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts until 1976. Six years later he met Sarah Fisher and had two children – Emily Rose in 1989 and Daisy May (1991).

He moved from theatre to TV in 1978 with a spot in the series Enemy at the Door and later on in that year, Lillie. Then in 1997, he was cast in the major role of Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer that ran until 2003. After the spin off Angel, there was a second spin off named Ripper which was to star Giles when he returned to England, however it was never finished and last that was heard of it, Joss (creator of Buffy) was planning to change it into a movie.

Recent TV performances also include Man Child, a series in the UK where he played James and playing the prime minister on Little Britain.
